This iReport is part of an assignment:
I had the pleasure of visiting for a short time with Vickie Lawrence aka Mama last night....and also saw her live show at a Casino........It was pretty good but not as good as I anticipated based on the reviews I read....This happens to me all the time with movies.
I really need to just stop reading reviews!!.... (As I complete this review..lol.)
The show is divided into two parts...The first 1/2 being Vickie as herself and the second 1/2 as Mama....I went thinking I would enjoy the Mama 1/2 much better and it ended up being the other way around...She also sings several songs.
Mama even does a rap song!...something about Geritol.
Please call me uninformed or even clueless if you prefer, but
I had no idea Vickie Lawrence was the one who sang the "The night the lights went out in Georgia".
I grew up with the song, The Carol Burnett Show and then Mama and somehow missed this....weird.
I think I enjoyed her stories about her & Carol and many of the entertainers of that time the best...Interesting tidbits of information.
On the Casino side of the action
I did pretty well and hit 4 Aces twice on the same machine!
I usually play craps but have been playing more video poker these days....The thing I really like about video poker is you can simply read the payout table to determine your odds...Same as craps and where you lay your wager...I like knowing where I stand against the house.
When it was over, those wins paid for the entire night including the show, a simple dinner for two, the wagers - all of it, almost to the dollar with the result being a night that did not happen according to my bank statement....
Have a wonderful day.
