This iReport is part of an assignment:
Your views of space and stars
Early Morning Stargazing
For those thinking this is a blank screen, look closely and you will see a meteorite. No big zoom on my camera, just POINT AND SHOOT. Living on the outskirts of the big city of Los Angeles, was very happy for the capture.
I want to thank iReporter Ryn, for bringing the Perseid Meteor Shower to my attention. This is usually on top of my list of things to do, but it slipped thru the cracks somehow this year.
Have watched this Meteor Shower many times in the past few years and it's show of shooting stars never fails me.
I was trying to photograph the constellation Orion this morning and when I went to download, found a shooting star. Was very fortunate as I was not using sophisticated camera equipment, just my dependable Nikon Coolpix S9300. I was focusing on the North East Sky which fortunately did not have much light pollution. I did observe one fireball and had seen one about five years ago, right over the city of Los Angeles. So have been lucky to have witnessed two in one's lifetime.
Have been up and outside at 4am these past two mornings and one more day to go. The Perseid Meteor Shower is the BEST show in town and it's FREE.
