Travel Tip: Find My Itin
However as I became more savvy, this approach was wasting precious time I didn't have. I smartened up and I noticed a trend that I found my most useful information for sample itineraries people would offer up. TripAdvisor forums and the Lonely Planet Thorntree forum were most useful in this respect. Users on these platforms would offer up trip reviews and itineraries from Day 1 to Day 20. From this I could basically comb through a bunch of sample itineraries and quickly figure out what was worth putting into my itinerary. This also gave me an opportunity to discover new places because some would talk about some of the off the beaten path things they did.
So in the past 5 years, I've been focusing most of my planning on finding sample itineraries first and then going from there. This has helped shave at least half the time I used to spend on trip planning.
Later I thought to myself, is there a platform out there that just has a one-stop-shop to find sample itineraries instead of having to dig through forums or even plain-old Google? I did some digging around and I really couldn't find anything out there.
That's when I decided to start building Find My Itin. I wanted to build a platform that would allow someone to easily search for something like "7 days in Thailand" and find 10-20 various sample itineraries from people that had been there and done that. Simultaneously I knew we had to put together a platform that would make it easy to enter your trip information and that is how we came up with the idea of mashing up hashtags with trip sharing.
Find My Itin is still in private beta right now that we truly believe that this will be a tool that would make it easier to travel better.
