Kalesa or Karitela is a horse drawn carriage in the Philippines. It is the mode of transportation during the 18th century and only nobles can afford.
To date, everyone can afford to get a ride on this Kalesa. From the ordinary people just to transport in nearby areas or the Kalesa is getting popular also for events or tourist ride.
Before the Kalesa was also for transporting goods to market or people to their destination. But in this modern times, the Kalesa will transport newly weds from church to reception, can also carry tourist around the area of Fort Santiago and other areas.
The Kalesa through the years has improved the looks and also in colors and styles. This will make the Karitela more attractive to the the people and specially to tourist. From the pictures you can see the different types of Kalesa and how beautiful it is.
