Phl mayors linked to P10-B fund scam
"Certainly, their cooperation is needed. Some of them would probably tell if signatures were faked. It's also in the interest of those people named to clear their names," Deputy Presidential Spokesperson Abigail Valte said in a media briefing.
Reports said the P900 million Malampaya gas fund was intended to rehabilitate areas affected by typhoons “Ondoy” and “Pepeng” in 2009.
Valte said it is important for President Benigno Aquino III to know the people involved and whose names were just used.
Several lawmakers in both houses of Congress allegedly handed out large sums of their Priority Assistance Development Fund (PDAF) to ghost projects of bogus non-government organizations, Justice Secretary Leila de Lima.
De Lima, however, declined to name the officials involved.
Valte said the NBI would conduct a "fair and impartial" probe and stressed it was not influenced by any partisan concerns.
Malacañang expressed hope the mayors summoned by the NBI could significantly help in the probe into the P10 billion “pork barrel” scam.
