Coffeeshop Bum Uses Tech To Do Big Business
Technology like Skype and Instant message allows me to conduct my entire business and earn a full-time living while I work in coffee shops sipping on steaming lattes.
Today, tech breakthroughs allow any entrepreneur to unchain themselves from long commutes and the 9 to 5 rat race. Instead, by simply opening up their laptop and using a simple WI-FI connection, they can be closing lucrative deals in far flung lands, all while they put their feet up and relax.
Of course, it didn't use to be this way. Before Al Gore invented the Internet anyone with an entrepreneurial dream was much more constrained by geography.
But today, a VOIP connection lets me interact with clients in every corner of the world with ease... all while sat in an EZ chair!
Tech has truly opened up the scope of what's possible for anyone with a dream and the will to succeed.
For anyone with a family to support, that's great news.
A dedicated Mom or Dad can do business without ever having to fight through long lines at airport security. They can have a true home-based business. And they can be there for all the important moments in their child's lives.
I may get some weird looks as I sit in Starbucks and conduct conference calls wearing my headset, but I wouldn't want it any other way. I'm able to run a successful Internet business while fulfilling all my fatherly responsibilities like a champ.
And there's no need to wear a "uniform." My work outfit is T-shirt and jeans. Sometimes I go days without shaving, as you can see in my photo! Because there's just no need to get all primped up to go to work. I can head down to the coffee shop whenever I feel like it, snap open my laptop, and I'm set.
No stressful commute... no boss looking over my shoulder... just working at my own pace, pretty much without a care in the world.
And it's all thanks to technology like Google hangouts that allow me to do business with the entire world, without getting on a plane and leaving "my world", which is my kids and my wife.
The same goes for my clients, the world is becoming so interconnected now that they conduct their own businesses almost solely via the Internet.
As a marketing coach, I use Internet technology and online advertising platforms to help them find new clients and customers all over world.
Many of my clients have never met one of their customers or clients in person, yet they run thriving businesses.
Tech really has changed the game. Allowing even a coffee shop bum like me to do big business.
