Dragon Con 2013
Girlie Doctor Who at Dragon Con!
- hhanks, CNN iReport producer
This year, I've managed to put together a group of gender-swapped Doctors from the popular British sci-fi series Doctor Who! There have been Eleven different actors who have played the part over the years, and we have girlie-fied them all! I hope that it ends up being really cute!
I'll be dressed as the Tenth Doctor, played by David Tennant.
It was quite difficult to fill all eleven spots, actually. You have to make sure that people are dedicated to completing the group, and are available at the meeting time. For me, finding the correct fabric was a nightmare! I was determined to do his blue suit, because for whatever reason it's the suit I think of when he comes to mind. But his blue suit has very dark red pinstripes, and it seemed impossible that I would find something like that. I tried dyeing white fabric with red stripes, and that didn't take. Then I tried painting some white stripes red, and that was a nightmare! Finally, another girl in the group found something on eBay and I ordered it right away. When it got to me, though, the stripes were definitely orange and not red! Finally, I decided to say "screw it" and go orange for the accent color. I didn't have time to try and work on the fabric problem any longer, and a local store had orange Converse shoes for sale. I figured, we're altering on the original outfits anyway...what does it matter?
So that is how I ended up with a skirt suit and my very first pair of Chucks!
