The Black Nazarene
Friday, the day people flock to the Black Nazarene in Quiapo, Manila but even if it is not a Friday, people still go and pray to the Black Nazarene, do their novena and make request to him. The Black Nazarene is a life sized and dark wooden sculpture of Jesus Christ carrying the cross.
The patron saint is believed to be light complexion but it has turned dark because of the burning galleon ship on its travel from Mexico.
Jesus Nazareno or Nazareno as popularly known to Filipinos is enshrined in Quiapo, Manila. The Annual fiesta of the Black Nazarene is January 9. Where people from all walks of life irregardless wether this is weekend or ordinary day flock to Quiapo in giving respect to the Black Nazarene.
The Black Nazarene is enshrined to a beautiful church, named Minor Basilica of the Black Nazarene or also known as Saint John the Baptist. The front of the church and the walls outside of the church is adorn with different saints.
Of course selling of candles, saints, flowers can be found around the corner but the area is maintained clean.
The main altar of the Black Nazarene is decorated with beautiful flowers. The ceiling is very simple and elegant (while and gold color). It fits the wardrobe of the Nazarene which is Maroon and Gold color.
What makes the Black Nazarene special? The people believe in miracles and by touching and wiping their towel or handkerchief on him it will help with their problems and solutions to it, heal the sick and more.
I have the opportunity to take the photos of the Black Nazarene (with permission and thank you to the security of the church for allowing me and few minutes only). I have taken a closer photo shot of the Black Nazarene. This is on the right side of the Black Nazarene altar fronting the people.
I think and believe that the Black Nazarene has given me the best shot or photo that I capture of him. As though his left hand is touching his heart (take a closer look) instead of holding the gold chain.
Even though I did not capture the right side of his face, he show something to me that this is photo is unique to show and share to the world.
