My Epilepsy Journey
My name is Tiffany Kairos, Founder of The Epilepsy Network (TEN). I have a condition called Epilepsy. Epilepsy is a neurological seizure disorder that affects over 65 million people in over 40 different ways. I am going on 5 years diagnosed. I was diagnosed 4 months after my wedding day. I suffered a grand mal seizure as I drove to the store to buy Christmas presents for my husband and family. I didn't make it to the store. I crashed into a pine tree and was taken to the ER. The diagnosis caused us financial heartache. I lost my job, we lost our new home that we had intended to begin our lives together in, I lost my car and ability to drive. I suffered multiple seizures a day while battling depression because of the diagnosis and all we had lost. Being placed on medications that came with so many terrible side effects. It was not what I had saw coming for our new lives together and not what I had anticipated for my life personally. Thankfully, I have a family that wouldn't allow me to give up and they helped me to regain confidence and self-esteem. I began The Epilepsy Network (TEN) an Epilepsy awareness organization known around the world devoted to promoting education and awareness.
I also began blogging my personal journey: http://tiffanykairos.com/ For the world to better understand my walk with Epilepsy.
Epilepsy Awareness is critical for the world to learn more about because this is a condition that can happen to anyone anywhere at anytime. There are so many reasons for seizures and Epilepsy diagnosises. Its being reported that more and more celebrities are suffering seizures and some of the most popular names in the industry are known for their Epilepsy. Prince, Elton John, Danny Glover and more!
Celebrities have even been kind enough to give shout out to The Epilepsy Network (TEN) via Twitter in support of this very important cause. Names such as: Elizabeth Vargas, Katie Holmes, Andie MacDowell, Bret Michaels and others.
The world truly does need to know the importance of Epilepsy Awareness, Seizure triggers, and what to do in the event of a seizure. I spend every day of my life fighting for awareness education and change and for me, giving up is simply not an option. Its a condition I live with and live for. Please consider sharing my story CNN. Thank you so much!
