my performance at Sacred Grounds Cafe
Hi Ani, I performed an incredible set at Sacred Grounds Cafe in San Francisco tonight. I played "crucify me" and "travelin' man" but I'm so disappointed because I couldn't bring myself to play my new song, "I am a racist and so are you" because I couldn't. I just couldn't. I posted a status on Facebook about why, and I'm gonna share that with you (and a group of others who I always seem to include for no real good reason, but always hopeful that they're listening too). The lyrics are pictured below. Apparently, the set streams live at this URL: http://www.ustream.tv/channel/sacred-grounds-cafe ...and it eventually gets posted on youtube if you search for "Sacred Grounds Cafe". I played around 20:00 PDT tonight, August 15th, 2013. Please have a look. It's quite superb if I do say so myself! :-) Thanks, Amrit " i chickened out. i couldn't do that song about racism to this wonderful audience. that contradiction in terms just speaks to the truth of why i wrote it. even i can't talk openly about it for the same fears that everyone has about racism and being racist and admitting to our racism. i don't like it any more than anyone else, but it's still truth. the fact that i can't sing it yet is just more and more reason for why i wrote it and why i must, must, must sing it soon. it's overwhelming me that i elected to play "crucify me" and "travelin' man" instead. how am i ever gonna lead this nation out of the denial if i can't even talk about it? my god. my god. help me sing this truth. oh god, please help me sing this truth." ________________ If you remember Jawaid Bazyar, you're an original and I love you!
