On my son's second day of classes I received a call from the school counselor. She informed me that my son had experienced a form of racism from another student. She had insisted the student who expressed his interest in not sitting next to my son lacks social skills. I then asked would my son have to be placed near him going forward to avoid another encounter. I was told yes due to this students rights, by law. Don't get me wrong I'm for inclusion of all students. But I do believe this borderlines BULLYING. I'm no different than any mother who wants the best for their child. I'm just an African American mother who wants the best. It pulls at my heart to know that racism can be allowed from individuals whom themselves want to be treated no differently than the next person.
