Yuma Proving Grounds, Arizona
Just a man and his dog
"Good boy, good boy!!" is the praise you hear from Navy Master at Arms 2nd Class Douglas Fisher for Military Working Dog Buksi as he sits and waits for his reward. Fisher and Buksi are attending the Inter Service Advanced Skills K9 Course at the Yuma Proving Grounds before deploying down range to Afghanistan to aid in the mission to fight the war on terror. Buksi is an explosive detection dog who helps find buried bombs and other devices. The bond between Fisher and Buksi is like none other, they will spend every waking moment together over the next year while deployed. Buski relies on Fisher for his every need and while Fisher is down range Buski will be a companion that provides a type of friendship that is never judgmental. To Buski, Fisher is his partner, his defender, his friend, his leader, and his home.
The war in Afghanistan is still constant. The men and women from our armed services are still being being deployed down range. Most, without complaint. Most with the excitement to serve their country and protect our freedoms. Many Americans are unaware how important these Military Working Dog Teams are to the role in protecting our solidiers safety and finding the bombs that put them in harms way.
All these dogs ask for in return is that of the love and companionship of their handler.
