Alleged VHP supporters vandalise Pak artists’ paintings in Ahmedabad's art gallery
About 20 people wearing red tilak were involved, who went on with their act shouting ‘Jai Shri Ram!’, said eye-witnesses. They had even brought along cameras to record their handiwork.
Ravindra Maradia, the exhibition's organiser, said: "The exhibition was an attempt to showcase the evolution of art in both the countries in the past 66 years. About six months ago, the paintings by Pakistani artists were on display at Hutheesing Visual Art Centre, too. But there was no protest then. We thought we won't face any trouble here. But we were obviously wrong."
A Pakistani art curator Sameera Raja commented "Its not about nationalities...its about extremism and intolerance...which we have our fair share of."
Art is a global language which brings soft messages of peace, love and harmony. This tragic event brings great loss and disrespect to art around the globe.
