Our beloved Molly Marie Young was stolen from us on Saturday, March 24 2012. Molly was called to the Carbondale apartment of a former boyfriend (Richie Minton) around 3:00 A.M. that morning with a plea of “Help me”. He had been drinking the night before but Molly had no alchohol in her system. She was killed by a gunshot wound to the top left side of her head shortly afterwards. Molly was right handed and the handgun (a .45 semiautomatic model 1911) used to end her life belonged to Richie Minton and Molly was not familiar with guns. The 911 call was made by Richie Minton’s roommate Wesley Romack at 9:02 A.M., at least 4 to 5 hours after the time of death. It was reported as a drug overdose on the 911 call. Molly’s body had been moved before the first responders arrived. Richie Minton had blood on his clothing. Molly had no powder residue on her hands and her fingerprints were not on the gun. Since this happened Richie Minton refuses to cooperate with the Illinois State Police Investigators. He has refused even to be interviewed!
We ask that you all stand with us so that we may present a unified voice to demand justice for Molly. Join us on Facebook.
Since the Justice for Molly Facebook page was launched, yard signs began appearing and the members to our group started to rise. In July of 2013, Monica Zukas featured, for the first time, Larry Young, Molly’s father, on her radio show. As of 08/17/2013 JFM facebook now has over 20,000 members and we are adding hundreds more daily. Our mission is to find justice for Molly and give her family a little bit of peace for their future.
Since the support has grown to thousands, we’ve created committees to help in our mission. Here is a breakdown. Letters Committee, Protest Committee, Merchandise Committee, Website Committee, Fundraising Committee and Correspondence with Members.
If you are interested in becoming a committee member please use the contact form to email us. Thank you.
