Russian military facilities at the Egyptian military's disposal

Russian President Vladimir Putin called an extraordinary session at the Kremlin Saturday to “discuss the situation in Egypt and take the necessary steps to the put Russian military facilities at the Egyptian military's disposal,” said an announcement in Moscow, without elaborating. Putin said further that “Russia will arrange for joint military exercises with the Egyptian army. Moscow’s steps directly conflict with Western condemnation of the Egyptian military’s crackdown on the Muslim Brotherhood. They were taken shortly after President Barack Obama cancelled a joint military exercise with Egypt as a mark of US disapproval

    Lessons from history

Anwar Sadat was an early participant in anti-colonial activities against the British-sponsored Egyptian monarchy. He became vice president under Nasser, and inherited a deteriorating relationship with the USSR when he transitioned into the presidency. The Soviets refused Egyptian demands for increased economic and military aid, and the Egyptians were trying hard to keep a foot in both camps. In reaction, Sadat expelled the 5,000 Soviet military advisors and 15,000 air force personnel in Egypt IN ONE WEEK. After the brokered Mideast peace following 1973 war, Sadat became convinced of the need for closer relations with Washington. Since then Egypt became a rubber stamp for American foreign policy.

During 1973 war with Israel OPEC announced that it would punish Israel's allies by implementing production cuts of 5 percent a month until that nation withdrew from the occupied territories and restored the rights of the Palestinians. It also declared that the true "enemies" of the Arab cause, in practice, this turned out to be the United States, would be subject to an indefinite "total embargo. Problems resolved after few months.

    Today:

King Abdullah of Saudi Arabia has called on Arabs to stand together against "attempts to destabilize" Egypt.

Again congratulations president obama for outstanding foreign policy achievements and job well done.
