KCGP feeds malnourished children
By: Ben Tesiorna
Pantukan, ComVal --- King-king Copper-Gold Project (KCGP) has entered into an agreement with the Local Government Unit of Pantukan to conduct a 120-day supplemental feeding program to five (5) impact barangays within the municipality, which has started on August 1, 2013.
The parties signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) on July 31st, 2013 to concretize the intention of providing nutritious food and food supplements to identified malnourished children of poor families residing within the barangays stipulated in the MOA, namely Kingking, Bongbong, Napnapan, Magnaga and Tagdangua.
The said agreement was crafted to address the challenge of this year’s nutrition month theme, "Gutom at Malnutrisyon, Sama-sama Nating Wakasan." The LGU spearheaded the implementation of the program through the Municipal Nutrition Council (MNC), and conducted Parents' Education in Nutrition in the barangays.
They will also provide technical and financial assistance to easily facilitate the implementation process, as well as coordination with its partners to monitor and evaluate the performance and compliance in the implementation of the program.
KCGP on its part provided additional financial and technical assistance to fast track the implementation of the program; provide tools in the on-going education of parents of the Food Always in the Home (FAITH) gardening or Vegetable-in-the-Backyard project; make available relevant information related to poverty reduction and nutrition-related programs; and coordinate with the LGU and the pilot barangays in monitoring and evaluating the implementation of the program.
On the other hand, the five pilot barangays would also have their own roles and responsibilities to sustain the program. They are expected to provide support to the LGU and KCGP in mobilizing constituents, especially the parents who have malnourished children for active participation in the program, provide local counterpart contribution especially in the continuation and sustenance of the program, and to coordinate with the LGU and KCGP in monitoring and evaluating the implementation of the program, among others.
(KCGP looks forward to the future of our youth here in the community. We don’t want them to be deprived of their rights to achieve their goals because they are malnourished. That’s why we are here to partner with the local government in strengthening nutrition programs.)
(I'm very thankful that we have St. Augustine which helps us in achieving our goals to decrease the number of malnourished children here in our place, especially to the target barangays stated in the MOA. This is a proof of their sincerity to help our less fortunate brothers in Pantukan. In behalf of LGU Pantukan, I am thankful to KCGP and I hope that this will just be one of the programs that we will be working together for the good of our residents),"said Mayor Yugo.
KCGP is a partnership between Nationwide Development Corporation (Nadecor) and St. Augustine Gold & Copper Ltd. (SAGCL) wherein the two companies are working together to develop the project while partnering with the community to meet the needs of Pantukan.
