Perfect Life Scenario
It started as a part of a very simple conversation with a friend. His response to the question was what made me more interested in this matter. That friend is one of the most intelligent people I have ever come across; but even he paused for a while and came up with a generic and brief answer. What I knew was that the perfect life scenario will be different for every individual. It is in fact just a dream -the ultimate dream- the ceiling of one’s imagination where each of his/her senses and needs will be fully satisfied. It may or may not fully come true, but there is nothing wrong with aiming for it. But my friend’s response made me wonder, have people stopped dreaming? Do they plan long term? If they do, how far do they want to reach? Or are people going just with the flow of life? To find answers to these, I kept slipping the perfect life question into more conversations-with friends, family, and acquaintances. And most of the answers were brief ideas of pleasant situations, which sort of answered one of the questions I asked myself- Yes, most people have stopped chasing dreams. What they are now looking for is wonderful, but these plans are so within their reach that they are likely to get them in a few years’ time without breaking any sweat. But isn’t the concept of dreaming is imagining something so ambitious, so far from one’s reach, that even the idea of getting there gives him/her Goosebumps? Shouldn’t the perfect life scenario be so satisfying that it keeps pushing the person through good and bad times? Inside one’s mind and through their imagination, shouldn’t one be the best in everything?
My friends won’t like the idea of me judging and commenting on their plans. However, they should know that I have absolutely no problem with what they want from their lives, but I do believe that each and every one of them can aim for and get so much more. They can easily take it to the next level. I believe, if we target the 20th floor, we may or may not reach there. But if we are going for the 100th, we will definitely get to and past 20th floor. Now my idea of 100th floor will be different from others’, but one thing is certain, for everyone, it’s just an amplified version of our own 20th floor.
This dream is not only about getting the riches; this is about getting the things I care most about, all at the same place. It can be about fulfilling a cause, owning an asset, being with a person or anything and everything else in the world. Mostly, it’s about looking up and imagining reaching the top. It’s about believing: If another person in the world has got there, that means it’s reachable. If no one has ever been there, I am not going to be behind anyone for trying and failing. Will I get to the peak? Maybe I will. Maybe not. But how am I going to know if I never try?
Life isn’t perfect, that’s what everyone says. But maybe it is meant to be perfect. It just needs our help to reach that shape.
