Making the right decision for loved ones
With all the positives of rehabilitation, however, there exists a bubble of rehabilitation centers rising from the surge of media coverage on celebrities retreating to recovery centers seeking solely to improve their image. Despite the debatable qualifications for treatment and the sad trend of entering rehabilitation because of its "popularity" or "fashion", the costs of rehabilitation is secondary to a positive recovery experience when it comes to saving our loved ones from drug addiction and their other self-harming psychological issues.
Holistic medicine, a progressive and recognized medicinal process common in recovery facilities, places emphasis on factors ranging from psychological, physical and social aspects. With this approach, a patient's recovery depends upon more than just medicine, but on counseling for psychological needs, providing a social environment for social needs, and other services and items that may promote their well-being.
Because of this very reason, centers offer not only medicinal treatment, but also cater their methods to a targeted demographic and each individual patient. There are recovery centers geared specifically for celebrities, athletes, women, and other groups, which provides patients with an environment of likeminded people sharing a communal goal towards recovery. Despite disputable empirical evidence on its significance on recovery, as social creatures, there are few things more vital for humans than providing a sense of belonging; it promotes happiness. This also explains why the leading recovery centers are located in popular mountainous or tropical destinations such as southern California or Colorado mountains, which are not chosen to boost prices and project luxury, but so that everything down to the regional environment fosters the recovery of the patients.
In 2004 the Orchid Treatment Center opened in the southern Floridian city of Palm Springs as the only women's center nationally and retains an exclusively female staff to even further uphold their status as women only. As featured on the show Intervention and 20/20, their treatment is unlike any other by catering specifically to the needs and struggles a women experiences when confronting an addiction to alcohol, drugs or both substances and incorporates exercises such as acupuncture, yoga, meditation and art, all of which promote physical and psychological wellness from a holistic standpoint.
With the rise and fall of the rehabilitation trend and some for seeking to cash in on the craze, some truly care about the recovery of their patients and provide everything necessary for a timely recovery, positive experience and lasting results.
