Freedom For Tunisia
A report on the Tunisia-situation.
Life in Tunisia has not changed a lot since Ben Ali left the country.
In fact; the people are still veryunsatisfied. I interviewed a Tunisian citizen, an average man living outside the city of Sousse. I asked him about how the situation is at the moment. What`s The New Tunisia like for the Tunisians? Or has nothing changed at all?
“Three weeks ago people were killed with a knife in the mountains between Algeria and
Tunisia. By a terrorist group. Al Qaeda. The president Moncef Marzouki should find them, but can`t find them.
He doesn`t put any effort into trying to find them. All he does right now is creating chaos to the people.
We still have no freedom after Ben Ali left! ”
And not long ago, in August 2013,
Mohamed Brahmi was killed in the streets, the same way as the politician Chokri Belaïd
was executed in February. Both belonged to the country’s secular opposition,
and extreme Islamists are behind this. In other words; Al Qaeda.
Why doesn`t Marzouki put any effort into stopping these terrorists?
“How can they ever manage to do anything while they are only
fighting with eachother?”
What about the Ennahda party? The people voted for this party.
“Yes, we voted for Ennahda. We believed they wanted a revolution,
but they deceived us. They did nothing! They promised freedom, and to make the
country better, but the country has stagnated.
If we go and talk to them and say “We want freedom now! We want to change
this situation!”, they don`t do anything in return.”
The Islamist party Ennahda`s vision on Islam is a moderate one.
And Tunisians all agree that a more developed
Islamist influence in the country does not help on tourism.
If tourism is lost economy goes down.
A fine balance is the main thing. But this will not happen as long as
Al Qaeda continues to
threaten the country. And al Qaeda recruits members from
all over the world, and Tunisia is one of
these countries, so it is not easy to keep track of them.
And what is the solution?
“Whenever Marzouki tries to fix the situation.
We see new terror acts on the news right away, but if Ben Ali was still here
he would arrest these people behind the
terrorist acts. He used to do this to all terrorist groups in Tunisia.
All the people who wanted to become Islamists had to go to prison, so why
does not Marzouki manage to do anything?
There has to be a reason that causes Marzouki to do nothing.
If Tunisia gets more terror now, we can`t live live in Tunisia.”
After this interview I got a textmessage.
“A military man was recently killed in the capital city,
Tunis, by The Salafia-Jihadia!”
The Salafia-Jihadia movement supports violent struggle against “enemies of the Islam”,
particularly Israel and the US. Salafi-Jihadi thought is at the core of Al Qaeda’s ideology.
“Salafia-Jihadia states that one should try to propagate Islam and implement it in all
spheres of life by liberating Islamic lands from all other cultures using Jihad.
In the eyes of Salafi-Jihadi leaders, this means that engaging in uncompromising violent struggle,
including military activity, against “enemies of Islam” becomes each person’s necessary
duty and goal.” Quoted from The Israel Security Agency.
So the people are not afraid for no reason.
Right now it looks like all Tunisians have lost hope. They are confused and angry.
This is a hopeless situation. And it looks like it is quite similar to the situation in Egypt.
