The humorous photos from O Sekoer (Luc Descheemaeker )
It is one of his works that make up the outstanding palmares of Luc, both in photos and in cartoons, is awesome, and that started in 1979. His themes are universal, permanent values, and received applause in countries as diverse as Japan, Portugal, Belgium, Colombia, Spain, Italy, Cuba, Bulgaria, Turkey, and others.
Institute Professor of Art Saint Joseph, of the Belgian city of Torhout, Luc has also developed a puppet theater project with young students, and has used some of their free time to participate in the activities of the NGO Damien Foundation in Bangladesh, in the construction of a hospital for lepers and tuberculosis.
I met Luc in 1997 in the Galician city of Fene (see last picture), when he won the Curuxa, in the photography category in the XII Festival of Humor, formerly organized the Museum of Humor of the town. In 2000 he kindly sent me a catalog that included winning drawings and photos, with the following dedication: "I hope this book will give you the joy in bad times."
Now, 16 years later, I had the thrill to reconnect with him, in celebration of XV PortoCartoon, in Portugal, where he earned honorable mention with one of his drawings.
We recalled that first meeting and resumed the subject of humorous photos. With the pohotos, the viewer hesitates between reality and staging. Made with great care, which feature films, the result is unquestionable, and they look like cartoons photographed. In most of them there is a touch surreal. With your photos, the artist achieves a subtle balance between content and form, highlighting the conflicting emotions of being human, and exerts social criticism.
The message of my humorous photographs - says Sekoer- is direct. The public should look in the mirror of life. To realize them I have the support of friends and family. My mood looking want people smile and exercise your mind.
