Cambodia’s spectacular ruins
Sunset at Phnom Bakheng
- sarahbrowngb, CNN iReport producer
Watching sunset at Phnom Bakheng, Siem Reap is definitely one of the checklist for Cambodia travelers. Undoubtedly, the sunset view is spectacular there. It is really worth going if you would like to experience the true Angkor sunset.
Setting off at around 16:30, I walked to the hilltop of Phnom Bakheng with my travel buddies. The zigzag and steep path was swarmed with hordes of tourists. Everyone was trying to scramble for a perfect spot to watch the sunset. You could also take an elephant up the hill. Beware of your dress code as uncovered shoulders and bare knees are not allowed to go inside. It took around 30 minutes to climb uphill.
Looking down from the top of Phnom Bakheng, the vastness of Angkor Wat came into view. I could see the splendid sun shining the ancient temple ruins with a golden hue until it fades out of the skyline completely.
This is one of my memorable travel experience at Cambodia.
