    America's Cup Racing

CNN PRODUCER NOTE     konacraig was in San Francisco for the America's Cup on August 24. The America's Cup is an event where sailors go head to head racing yachts and sailboats. 'This is a sport for the elite. Each boat costs millions to design and manufacture. Several have broken apart and sank due to the heavy stresses they face,' he explained. It was his first time attending the event, and he says a highlight was watching boats traveling more than 47 knots. 'They literally lifted out of the water as if they were about to takeoff and fly,' he said.

A beautiful Saturday afternoon at the America's Cup challenger finals yielded some beautiful photos of the challenger boats as well as the Oracle boat. The weather was great and the crowds cheered as the New Zealand boat beat the Italian boat. The second race was called due to wind speed with the final race to take place on Sunday. It is hard to believe that sail boats can speed sail in excess of 45 knotts. The finals in September are sure to be an interesting event
