Hanswijkcavalcade in Mechelen: once every 25 years
The Cavalcade was immediately followed by the Mechelen Circumambulation (Mechelse Ommegang). Throughout the centuries the Circumambulation went out during special occasions such as the Hanswijkcavalcade. The last time the Circumambulation went through the city was during the festivities surrounding the 500th anniversary of the birth of Charles V, Holy Roman Emperor in the year 2000. The tradition of using giants in the Circumambulation is part of the inscription 'Processional giants and dragons in Belgium and France' on the list of intangible world heritage of UNESCO.
Visitors have the chance to see the Hanswijkcavalcade and Circumbulation again on September 1st 2013. After that it will take till 2038 to see another Hanswijkcavalcade and presumably another Circumambulation in Mechelen again.
