90 year old family cabin threatened

CNN PRODUCER NOTE     RobS10 and his family are concerned for the family cabin that their grandfather built 90 years ago. His grandfather bought the land the cabin is on in his late teens and built the cabin by hand from cutting logs on the property in the late 1920's. He shared that the cabin has survived two previous forest fires from the 80's and 90's but he doesn't feel the family cabin will be that lucky again. 'The conditions this year are extremely dry, and the fire got to us much sooner than the last two. The Forest Service sent a crew out to prep the area around our structures, but they can only do so much when the whole area appears to be burning,' he says. 'All I can say is I pray they were successful, and am still holding out hope until I hear otherwise from the Forest Service.'

Although the previous forest fires didn't burn down the cabin, he says the fire really took a toll on the trees. 'We replanted after the 1987 Complex fire, and will do so again. But the replanted trees within the worst parts of the '87 burn were just starting to look like a forest again, 27 years later,' he says. 'My son will be in his mid 30s and us in our 70s when it might look anywhere as beautiful as it did on August 16th. We can rebuild the cabin, but the forest is a lot tougher. '
