This iReport is part of an assignment:
America’s Influence around the World, in Decline?
Today it seems that our status and influence around the world have declined. The Middle East is in chaos, Russia has thumbed its nose at us and even Europe is questioning our surveillance programs.
President Obama insists that “we remain the one indispensable nation”. If that were the case, how are we so indispensable these days?
Egypt is in chaos; we supported the Muslim Brotherhood’s Morsi and when the military ousted him, we support them too? What are we doing? Just financially supporting whoever happens to be in charge on any given day?
Syria…the president drew a red line about the government using weapons against their own people and then when the line was crossed, we did what?
Russia…Hillary had them press the reset button for US and Russian relations. But it seems the reset did not reset much of anything. They don’t respect us and are unwilling to work as our ally.
In some ways I wish the US would not get involved in every little thing around the world, but at the same time I don’t want our nation to lose it status around the world.
When the president was elected, there was great hope that diplomacy would change the world for the better. He sent Hillary to visit pretty much everyone; apparently she traveled more than any other Secretary of State before her. With all those efforts, things around the world do not seem all that much better to me.
I still believe most people around the world still hate us, especially radical Muslims…(Boston bombing, Ft. Hood shooting, Shooting at Little Rock recruiter office etc) but now I believe that they no longer respect us and that worries me.
Does it worry anyone else?
