Angry but peaceful anti-pork protest held
In the province of Bohol, it’s organized by some civic groups which started at 9 a.m. at the Plaza Rizal.
Scores of people from this city who wore white t-shirts with print “Scrap Pork Barrel” have committed to express their outrage against the “pork barrel” scandal.
According to the organizers, it’s a protest driven by anger over the misuse of public funds.
The event fell on the same day the country celebrates National Heroes' Day.
The official unity statement of the "1 Million Protest March" read:
All Filipinos are taxpayers. Rich or poor, we all pay taxes in one form or another. Thus, we assert our collective right to demand the following:
Scrap Pork, account for all spent pork, investigate and punish those guilty of abusing pork.
