    Phoenix Dust Storm

CNN PRODUCER NOTE     Kim Martinez stood on top of his 15-story condo building in Phoenix and captured this panorama photo of a haboob rolling through town yesterday. At the time of the photo, Martinez estimates he was 1.5 miles away from the dust storm. “The large brown mass in the sky in the right side of the photo is the leading edge of a monsoon-associated dust storm ("haboob") that was approaching from the South. It was ahead of a thunderstorm cell that followed it into Phoenix,” he said. Martinez has lived in Phoenix for 29 years and has witnessed many of these storms.

Photo taken from north-central Phoenix Arizona at 6:30pm August 26, 2013 panning from NNE to SE showing the approach of a dust wall from the South. The haboob was on the leading edge of a monsoon thunderstorm cell that reached the city soon afterwards.
