Travel tip: start early and plan over coffee

CNN PRODUCER NOTE     Graduate student Jillkerouac spent a month driving across the United States on a solo road trip which she dubbed the "The Jill Kerouac Project." She never spent more than two days in a city, so she wanted to see as much as possible. Here travel tip is to start early, and plan everything. She did most of her planning in the morning while sitting at a local coffee shop looking up interesting places to visit in the area.
    - Jareen, CNN iReport producer

On your first morning in a city, wake up early, find a local coffee shop (think no chains!), grab a latte and sit down with Yelp or your travel guide. Map out your must-sees and some great meal and shopping options, see where your hot spots are, and plan how to travel between them. (Extra tip: If you bookmark everything in Yelp it'll map it for you!) It only takes an hour but it'll guarantee you see what you want and aren't running across town all day. Plus you'll get some people-watching in in the process.
