This iReport is part of an assignment:
How Filipinos Fight Bold and Wise
Peaceful. Bloodless. United. Bold. Wise. Words to describe the 1Million March for the abolishment of Pork Barrel held last August 26 in Luneta. At that moment, people witnessed how Filipinos are willing to risk and dedicate their lives for the future of the country. Status is no longer an issue with this matter. Filipinos from all walks of life let their clothes be stained by mud and shouted so that their own voices are heard.
Days before the march, different rumors and news arose. There is a rumor about a possible bombing on the day itself. News programs are filled with the president’s announcement of Pork Barrel abolishment, and a possibility of thunderstorm. These did not stop the protesters ----the grand eyeball pushed through. Contrary to the news and rumors, there were no bombings and no heavy rains. Protesters fought in a peaceful and bloodless battle. Their shouts, songs, dances, words and tiredness demand truth and fairness. Violence is nowhere to be seen.
This is not how Filipinos celebrate National Heroes Day.
Filipinos’ taxes were robbed ---this is the reality. This is a reason for Filipinos to feel hatred towards those who betrayed their trusts. As of now, the accused in this chaos surrendered yesterday night. Though that’s a different story, it could be an indication of progress and that the efforts of people in the march were somehow not wasted.#
