I am one of the first African American in my school District 833 the year 2013. I have worked in this district for 19 yrs. with predominantly Caucasian student and staff. I have experienced negative and positive racial issues. The negative issues on racism taught me that most races lack the ability on how to start a conversation with a person of another race, culture, or ethnicity. Some people instead try to sweep it under the rug, as a way of getting out of a conversation in fear of being reprimanded or retaliated against. I believe Instead of stagnating or regressing, we should began to progress, by demagnetizing stereotyping and open up the conversation without these fears and get more understanding. Also, I believe an individuals should began to stand on their on merits or values, not everyone of the same races have the same belief system.
