Recently the Department of Trade and Industry has its National Food Fair from August 21 - 25, 2013 there were various food from different regions and two things caught my attention is coffee and chocolate. For now will tell you about coffee here in the Philippines:
1) In the Cordillera Administrative Region, coffee is a growing industry aside from other regions.
2) The Philippines produces 4 coffee varieties ; Arabica, Liberica (barako), Excelsa and Robusta.
3) During Spanish times, Philippines is one of the top coffee producers in the world.
There are different types of coffee during the exhibit, there are roasted highland coffee, organic brown coffee, premium arabica, pure ground coffee, pure coffee arabica and so other types that a coffee lover will have plenty to choose from.
Also as the coffee tree gets older, it bears from leaves and fruits and produces less branches.(Interesting fact about coffee). Also when the fruit is ripe, it is always hand pick and using the technique of "selective picking" it means that the ripe fruit only is removed or "strip picking" where all the fruits is removed only once from the branch.
This exhibit is really educational and have plenty of food tasting from fruit juices, organic rice, chips(banana, camote etc. ) and many more.
Of course there is a free cup of coffee to taste (choose what type if is capuccino, brewed etc.) and the visitors have tasted the best coffee.
