Chobani Yogurt Contamination
Early last week I noticed that the Chobani yogurt that I eat regularly looked, tasted and felt different. It seemed as if they had changed their recipe and now it was yielding a more watery product that was less tasty.
Over the last couple days I began to feel ill, upset stomach, bloating, gas, diarrhea, etc but never correlated it to the yogurt.
Yesterday evening opened my fridge and saw that the lids on 3 sealed yogurt cups were inflated and bulging off while another lid had exploded and the contents (yogurt) was all over my fridge.
I decided to Google "exploding Chobani" and learned that over the last 24 hours many people had this same problem and notified Chobani as well as posted complaints and photos to the companies Facebook page that were later removed by the company. At the same time retailers were voluntarily removing Chobani products from the shelves. Some identified products with the stamped code 16-012 on lids; when I looked in my fridge all the lids (all different flavors) had that code. See http://www.pccnaturalmarkets.com/recalls/2013_0830_chobani_yogurt.html
This seems to be an issue of Chobani trying to play down the issue while retailers and blogs are warning of dangers.
I am also not sure of what health risk eating this yogurt creates but will follow up with my physician. Internet sites seem to vary in opinion from recommending courses of antibiotics (Cipro) to doing nothing.
Chobani's Facebook page has now erupted with people noting they saw supermarket staff clearing all product from shelves and want an answer of what is wrong if there is no recall in place. https://www.facebook.com/Chobani?filter=2
