This iReport is part of an assignment:
Big Brother of the World
I guess with what is going on in Syria people are not focused on the fact that we, a nation that prides itself on due process, is spying on everyone. We are just treating everyone as if they are guilty and using our internet surveillance to collect evidence until someone steps out of line and then we have all this evidence I guess to do, whatever we want?
How creepy it is to think that the nation that I used to identify as one that is all about democracy, free speech and due process is really a nation that has thrown those ideals out the window to provide it's people with a false sense of security.
I know a lot of people have mixed feelings about Edward Snowden and the information that he has leaked, but I have to say, I am glad he did it. While it disturbs me to know it disturbs me even more that it has been going on and I didn't know.
Should the US continue to spy on everyone or should we return to being a nation that presumes people innocent instead of treating them as if they are guilty or at least soon to be guilty?
