SEA LION SWIMS BY ON A LAZY LABOR DAY
But i hopped right into the water and took my usual one mile swim, pier-to-pier. Upon leaving the water, I looked behind me and saw what looked like a black dog swimming behind me.
But it was no dog! It was a seal and a big one too. Probably the same one that hangs out near the bait barge on the way out to the ocean and barks like a dog.
So I grabbed my camera and started snapping away. When the pinniped got close enough, I started talking baby talk to it and it ventured very close to the beach.
However, my sweet talk was no match for a BBQ going on further down the beach and a fishing boat that just pulled into the docks at Southwestern Yacht Club.
Yes, seals are like men. They are easy to attract but also easily distracted by sardines or anchovies or the smell of Labor Day hamburgers on a smoky frill.
