Sweden Welcomes Obama
Obama was hosted (for the second time today) at Stockholm's Grand Hôtel, which is is owned by the Wallenberg finance family, for a luncheon and meetings with US ambassador to Sweden, Mark Brzezinski.
Swedish Media widely covered Obama's visit with different tones; some applauds while others criticize the inconveniences created by Obama and his entourage. The daily Metro for example on its Front page wrote "Stockholm shuts down due to Obama's Visit"; a leftist daily called Dagens Nyheter (Daily News) said "The Nobel Peace Prize Laureate turn out War President"; Svenska Dagsbladet splashed this "Police towed away 150 cars from the city"; the headline for the Publicly owned Swedish National TV was "Obama on his Way to Sweden". So far the situation seems under control except that Police is handling a false bomb alarm and some protesters who demonstrated in front of the Swedish National Palace to oppose Obama's visit. According to his itinerary, US's President visited the Technical School and is expected to discuss matters such as Syria, Climate Change among others with senior Nordic Countries' Officials during his visit. Security is tight with hundreds of Swedish & US police officers in uniforms and plain clothes everywhere in the central Stockholm, especially around the Grand Hôtel where the President & his entourage are reportedly are staying. A nearby subway station whereby Obama is staying, will be closed from September 1-5 in addition to several streets and squares of Stockholm where traffic will be closed from a few hours to a couple of days depending on their proximity and other reasons related to Obama's route.
