We live in the high desert of Southern California and are lucky to have many wild critters sharing our land. Most days we are visited by a Roadrunner, and this one seems to be a young one born this year. He/she still has some 'down' baby feathers. Roadrunners, at least the ones we have been lucky enough to enjoy on our land, are quite social. Several years ago an adult Roadrunner would tap on the window (standing on the back of a patio chair) to get our attention. This young roadrunner 'chats' up a storm walking around the outside of the house, hoping we will come out with a treat. We sometimes give them a small hamburger meatball (rarely because we want him/her to hunt on their own). Yesterday I was in & out of the house taking photos of the great cloud formations & the Roadrunner followed me around. I sat on the ground & took advantage of his chatter with a video. The above photo was taken while I was standing on a bench on the back patio, looking over the wall to get pics of the clouds. I heard the 'chatter' & turned around & he was right there next to me (so close the 1st pic I took was too blurred). He stayed while I took a few more pics.Take note of his Great Hair Do which stands up & lays down on the top of his head, too cute!!The photo of him jumping/running off the wall is a bit blurred but I thought it was a cool pic to share...they are FAST & as you can see quite aero dynamic! It's fun to watch them run!! Look at the Beautiful detail of this bird, not to mention his TOES & NAILS...and don't forget, this is a BABY!
