Brutal attack to camp Ashraf - PMOI
Over 3100 of Ashraf’s residents had been moved to Camp Liberty near Baghdad airport last year which is more like a concentration camp and a prison, with no freedom of movement, no access to lawyers or visitors. Camp Liberty has been attacked three times by rockets this year which left 10 people dead and hundreds wounded.
Brutal massacre at camp Ashraf has caused the death of 52 defenceless residents, including 16 members of the National Council of Resistance of Iran. One of them is Ms Zohre Ghaemi, Deputy Secretary General of the PMOI.
Six women and one man have been taken hostage by Iraqi forces; we have no news of their whereabouts.
Pictures from the scene confirm that many of the victims were first handcuffed and identified and then executed by a bullet in their head. Nine of the victims were those who had been wounded and taken to the clinic and were shot dead at the clinic with bullets in their heads.
Iranian Revolutionary Guards have issued a statement and praising the killings and Iranian media have taken responsibility for the attack.
Those killed had all “Protected Persons” ID Cards under the 4th Geneva Convection, given to them by US forces after the invasion of Iraq. Moreover, the UN High Commissioner for Refugees had declared all Ashraf residents as “asylum-seekers” and “People of Concern” for the UNHCR. Therefore, yesterday’s bloody massacre is a crime against humanity and must be condemned.
