In a different time under a different President Major General John Singlaub stood up and told the truth. Specifically as the Chief of Staff to the US Forces Korea and Eight US Army he gave a speech how Jimmy Carter's plan to remove all US Forces from the South Korean Peninsula would lead to another Korean War costing thousands of lives. His speech caused a reexamination of that proposed policy and it was soon dropped. The price MG Singlaub paid was forced retirement. A price he never regretted. HE saved thousands of lives by being upfront and honest and giving his true professional military opinion. One shared by most of his peers who didn't have the intestinal fortitude he did.
