anyone being charged twice for pre-order Final Fantasy 14 online?
On August 20th, 2013, I pre-ordered FF14 deluxe edition which is $49.99. I noticed that I was charged right away through online banking, even though on Square Enix's webpage, it told me I wont be charged until the game is released. I thought it was just a credit hold so I didn’t pay much attention to the transaction.
On August 23rd, 2013, I helped my friend to pre-order FF14 standard edition which is $29.99. The same thing happened to me. The transaction for this pre-order showed up on my online banking statement when the website told me that I wont be charged until the release date.
Everything would be fine if my friend and I didn't see that promotion online. We found a promotion elsewhere saying that if we pre-order two or more FF14s, we could get a $20 dollars discount. Therefore, I canceled both two pre-orders from Square Enix. On the cancellation pages, I was told that I would not get any refunds since I had not been charged. I still thought it was ok since there were only "credit holds".
I drove to the location for that promotion, but I was told the promotion had expired.
My friend, at that time, decided not to pre-order anymore, so I went back home and placed another pre-order of FF14 deluxe edition just for myself.
In summary, I pre-ordered two FF14 deluxe edition and one FF14 standard edition; I canceled one pre-order of FF14 deluxe and FF14 standard edition each.
The game had been released on August 27th, 2013, but up until the time I am writing this passage, I am still being charged for two "$49.99" and one "$29.99". More ridiculously, I was charged AGAIN for one deluxe edition for $49.99 on August 27th, 2013 since "players wont be charged until the game is released".
I tried to contact their custom service department several times. they kept telling me that their records showed I was charged only once for ONE FF14 deluxe edition. they now want me to fax or mail my credit card statement to the department which I will do so. But before doing that, I would really like to share my story with the public.
I understand that sometimes errors could happen. people could been charged even they canceled their orders. and with some communications, merchants will usually solve problems for customs.
But for preordering, it is just totally wrong to charge people twice. one at the time of preordering; one at the time of the release date. from my understanding, if being charged twice happened to me, it could happen to "millions" of players who preorder the game. is this happening to anyone else who preordered Final Fantasy 14 online?
