    Paddling the Santa Fe River

CNN PRODUCER NOTE     rlau11 took a recent trip to High Springs, Florida, on September 1. She says the scenery of the river was peaceful. She says a highlight of the trip was seeing all the turtles and a crowned night heron, which are featured in her photographs. She recommends people visit the area for a unique experience. 'It was a beautiful river with lots to see, and plenty of springs where you can stop and take a swim or have a picnic. It is a great way to see parts of Florida that many tourists overlook while visiting Disney World and other theme parks,' she said. Her third photo was featured as CNN's Travel Photo of the Day for August 20, 2014.

These photos were taken during a seven mile trek down the Santa Fe River over Labor Day weekend. The Santa Fe River is located in northern Florida, is approximately 75 miles long, and is special in that it disappears into a sinkhole and reappears approximately three miles downstream. All photos were taken downstream from River Rise Preserve State Park near High Springs, Florida.
