My sister lost over 100 pounds!
Here is an excerpt from the website written by Andrea and posted on her profile page:
"After giving birth to 2 boys within 14 months my body had enough. I was tipping the scale past 300 pounds, and had gained and lost over 150lbs in the past 3 years.
I had tried every fad diet possible and while some worked none of them taught me how to have a proper relationship with food. The biggest eye opener was how old all this extra weight was making me feel. I was 29 years old trapped in the body of an elderly woman. My back was a wreck, my knees well forget about that they were pretty much useless, and I couldn’t run and play with my boys. I remember trying to play airplane with them (you know the game where you lift them up using your legs) and I wasn’t even able to bend my knees far enough to be able to get them off the ground. Simple activities like shaving my legs became challenging. Finally in June of 2012 I decided to change my life.
I started looking closely at my “skinny” friends and realized that they didn’t eat healthy food all the time. I used to think that it was their genetics that allowed them to eat pizza and ice cream and not gain weight. I never looked at the whole picture. Sure they were ordering a hamburger and fries but they weren’t finishing every last bite. The light went off in my head. I can eat the same foods that I love and be able to lose weight in the process. So I started with just that. I cut down my food intake by at least ½ but I never cutout one single thing from my diet. I was eating great foods. . . ice cream, pizza, pot pies and the weight was pouring off. Two months later and I was down 43.9 lbs. Of course I factored in other things. I drank lots of water and only allowed myself 1 can of diet soda a day. I tried to be more active but was not exercising. I simply did not have the time for that. I found myself parking farther away at stores, taking steps not elevators, walking up/down escalators, going on walks with my boys, and overall playing harder and longer with them. At mealtime I always tried to eat a bigger portion of fruits and veggies and then smaller portions of carbs, protein and fat (for a sample menu click here). And every day I rewarded myself with some treat!!! That’s right folks EVERYDAY! Whether it was a handful of reeses pieces or a bag of popcorn I was feeling satisfied.
Not once throughout this journey have I felt deprived. People kept asking me how I was able to eat the stuff that I did and still lose weight. My answer to that. . . PORTION CONTROL. Its true that everything in moderation can be okay for you. Unfortunately we are a society that believes in over indulgence. But the quicker we can change that the quicker we can all become healthy versions of ourselves. I have more energy and stamina, my back pain is gone, my knees feel wonderful and most importantly I am keeping up with my boys."
Andrea has inspired me to get in shape and "help free myself from food", as she puts it. She has also started teaching a class at her church to help other people who struggle with weight loss. She makes regular posts on her ThiktoThin Facebook page with hopes that people out there are listening.
Please help me share her story. I want to show her that her story is important and can inspire others to achieve a healthier lifestyle.
