DC Sexualizes Suicide - Have They Gone Too Far?
DC Comics recently took steps in a truly horrific display of the sickest and most perverted treatment of a female character in many years, and asked their readers to be the instruments of expression. The publishing company recently sent out a request for fans or artists to depict the villain, Harley Quinn, attempting numerous acts of suicide, most notably the last one where she is naked in a bathtub. Over the years DC has proven they don't mind being the face of misogyny in comics, in fact often telling their employees to expect an objectifying climate for women, and if they don't like it to get another job.
The sad fact remains that DC is an influential force in the realm of comic books, whose readers are often young men and women. The publishers don't seem to care that they are influencing today's generation and promoting a degrading and overly sexualized view of women, as well as a terrifying disregard for suicide that trivializes the suffering many people face.
