Protests turn violent in Istanbul as police move in

CNN PRODUCER NOTE     Freelance journalist Essam Al-Ghalib was covering the protest in Taksim, Istanbul, on Tuesday night when he saw police firing rubber bullets at protesters, he said. Al-Ghalib captured the moment on film, and you can hear the natsound 15 seconds into the clip. He has been documenting the protests since they began in June. Read more about the protest on CNN.

After about five weeks of quiet in Taksim, riots once again broke out Tuesday evening. Thousands of marchers demonstrating against the killing of a young Turkish demonstrator the previous day, attempted to reach the square and Gezi Park but were pushed back by police using tear gas, water cannons and rubber bullets.

This footage was shot on Tarlabasi Avenue, a main thoroughfare, where protestors set up barricades, before being fired upon with rubber bullets.

This was shot in the chaos that erupted as police suddenly appeared around the corner.

At about 00:15 you can hear the gas fired rubber bullets being fired, then you can hear them bouncing around the camera. It was a close call.
