This iReport is part of an assignment:
Cambodia’s spectacular ruins
Wonders of Ankgor Wat
Ankgor Wat is actually the signature site of a vast grouping of temples and non-religious structures that covers a huge region north of Tonle Sap Lake.
Our group had set up a guided walk through three other primary temple sites near Angkor Wat - Ta Prohm, Preah Kahn, with another 3 mile walk through the ruins of the medieval city of Angkor Thom the following day.
It's a magical, mystical place that bears evidence to a culture that was a powerhouse in southeast Asia 1000 years ago. Today's Cambodia is struggling to overcome the horror of the Khmer Rouge and Pol Pot, and the deadly war with Vietnam that followed. Yet the temples of Angkor Wat should be a reminder of the inherent capabilities of this race.
