CSU-Pueblo Thunderwolves Rising in the Rankings to #5
PUEBLO, Colo. (Sept. 11, 2013) - CSU-Pueblo is once again on the rise earning a national ranking of 5th in the D2Football.com Top 25 Poll, which was released on Tuesday (9/10/13). Along with their rise on the rankings, Punter Brandon Kliesen (Sr., Pueblo, Colo.) was also named a First Team All-American selection player.
CSU-Pueblo, which finished the 2012 season with a 12-1 record, earning its first NCAA Division II playoff win in program history and finishing the season ranked sixth in the nation, is expected to finish 2013 with that same end ranking of sixth. The ThunderWolves ended the regular season as the number-one ranked team in the nation last year, holding the top spot for the final five weeks of the season.
Knowing that the Thunderwolves did as good as they did in the previous years, many are expecting more greatness to come from this high ranking NCAA Division 2 team. The team goes into every game thinking it is their first game of the season (1-0). Coach John Wristen has developed an outstanding team that has seen the lights of the national play-offs 2 years in a row and they plan on making it a 3rd.
The ThunderWolves were joined by RMAC foe, Chadron State, in the poll. Chadron is ranked 17th, according to D2Football.com. Kliesen, though, in earning first-team Preseason All-America honors by D2Football.com, becomes the first player in school history to earn such recognition by the organization.
On Saturday, September 14th the Thunderwolves will take on Angelo State at the AT&T stadium in Dallas, TX, and will be looking for another "W" for the season. The game will be aired along the Front Range of Colorado on several cable and satellite providers (info below).
