Congress Chooses Putin Over Obama- "Pulling Heaven Down, and Raising Up a Whore"
- Jareen, CNN iReport producer
"Betrayal is the only truth that sticks."
Will Obama see the truth in this action by House GOP members?
What about,"Cleave to no faith when faith brings blood."
Does Obama still believe he can get a bi-partisan agreement on anything with Republicans?
Probably, the best quote by Arthur Miller to describe our Congress is:
“You're pulling heaven down, and raising up a whore!” -
from The Crucible (1953)
President Obama gave Congress a say on Syria. They have been tested and found wanting.
I find them morally bankrupt.
Obama brought about the deal that's on the table over Syria- made possible by his willingness to use force. He asked for Congress to take a stand. That was brilliant. Congress showed themselves for who they are.
Now Congress praises Putin?
Putin deserves credit for whatever reason he finds this in his interest. But Putin's deal for Syria wouldn't have been forthcoming were it not for the threat of military action.
Was it Congress that issued this threat? Hardly.
They can't agree to anything yet our president gave them a shot. They failed miserably.
Congress says it deferred their decision to that of their constituents. Really? People asked for jobs and help after the financial meltdown. Did Congress listen then?
The House GOP is a dry heave these days especially when they use their constituents for political cover from taking a stand for our president's gunpowder diplomacy and for our country.
And the American people? They weighed in too. Americans would rather wander 40 more years in the wilderness, than destroy their 'idols of gold', as they proclaim, "Syria's not our problem". Are we not our brother's keeper?
It's going to take us longer to get to the promised land, folks because we also failed morally.
Americans have the Congress it deserves.
Obama had the authority to act in Syria, but yielded to calls from Congress to have their say. On this important moral issue, our President gave them their shot. And on this issue, as in so many other important issues that face the American people, Congress has failed.
Hopefully, Obama has learned that the Republicans are not his friends and would throw him and this country under the bus in order to help themselves politically.
The GOP is the party of governmental moral bankruptcy.
And many Americans are right there with them.
Maybe Russia's Putin got that part right in his New York Times OP-ED piece where he claims that "Americans are not exceptional."
For Americans to watch as Syrians are murdered when we could help, is not exceptional at all.
