For the Rosia Montana subject the main suffering party would be the people and the Constitution – the fundamental document of the people their fundamental legal statement and for the dogs it is… well the dogs, as the human feeling of not having any responsibility and approaching the problem based on the primitive concept of Us (people) or Them (dogs).
The best thing that the superior race will do at this point is to kill all of them as this is now presented as a matter of survival and not as one of the biggest mistakes of all governments and mayors of the city. While the problem of the dogs is relatively already decided (they will be all killed if not adopted within a number of days – 15 if I am not mistaken) the Rosia Montana is a bit more complex as the main subject in that play have lots of PR companies, lawyers and consultants on their payroll, who are really working hard for their money. At this point there may be identified at least two outcomes which are governing to some degree the future of the Romanian politics and government as this is a very important election subject.
One of the possible outcomes is the approval of the project in the current form despite all the protesters gathered every night in the Romanian symbol of democracy – University Square, and the other one is the dismissal of the project, thus upsetting the powerful company and a major part of the local population of Rosia Montana who are in a desperate need of jobs – doesn’t matter if their jobs will destroy the future of their children or the country, as the inhabitants of Rosia Montana are suffering of the same syndrome as the entire population of the country: an acute lack of sensibility for the future generations! As many would say without any restraint: “It will be their problem, I don’t care”.
A problem that is now seen only because the Prime Minister sent the draft law of approving the project to the Parliament for debate and vote without having attached to the draft law the needed environment impact assessment or Government authorizations. It is in the mind of any Romanian that the Parliament is not the representative body of the population and that there are 99% chance for the project to pass and to become a law. This will inevitably stop all the civic protests against the project as from that moment any protest would mean a breach of an approved law and even the persons living on the perimeter where the gold mine will be set up will need to abide be the law and accept expropriation done by a private company in the interest of their shareholders and in the name of PROFIT.
Mountains will disappear so fast as the protests once the law is approved in Parliament, the existent ecosystem will vanish as a beautiful dream and some of the people of that village will have their dream job – getting gold out of the mountains at any cost. Don’t get me wrong the problem is serious and I do empathize with the people that do not have jobs in that village but this does not grant them the right to lobby or even decide in that region – lack of jobs is a major problem in Romania and all over the world, it does not however gives to any of us the right to use any means for getting a job.
Bottom line, the political class is decided to go further with the project, the number of protesters against the project is too small to change something and the nature as well as the dogs is doomed due to the greed in first case and to the lack of responsibility in the second case which together combined give us a very accurate portrait of the current society – make money at any cost – which will afterwards be donated for the protection of environment and the protection of dogs without an owner.
The identical characteristic of both issues is the fact that we as people are only interested in…. interest, in all of its meanings.
As a personal note the Romanian state is too weak to have such a project implemented whilst making sure that all the necessary environment issues are addressed; the Government is so weak to the corruption phenomenon that even the fact that this highly controversial project is approved by the political class without any comments is one of the strongest indicators of the fact that the only losing party of this project will definitely be the people.
The same conclusion can be reached for the other subject as any radical measures no matter what is the subject are not only highly dangerous but are always highly wrong and with no possibility of remedy or return to the initial state.
