When I heard about the shootings at the Washington Navy Yard I had no idea that there would be a connection to the shooter less than two miles from my home. White Settlement, Texas is a northwestern suburb of Fort Worth with a population slightly over 16,000. It is located next door to the Joint Reserve Base, formerly Carswell Air Force Base and the Lockheed Air Force production plant where the F-16 Fighting Falcon is built. Until yesterday the only major news event to occur in White Settlement was on April 29th, 2002 when White Settlement 37 year old police Captain George Scott Monier was shot and killed in a standoff with a gunman. I drive down White Settlement Road several times a week passing by the Happy Bowl Thai restaurant where Aaron Alexis was reported to have worked as a bus boy. Less than a half mile from the Happy Bowl is the residence where he stayed and next door to that is a Buddhist Temple and meditation garden. The Happy Bowl is located in a one story strip shopping center where there is never any problem with parking. As I drove by there today the parking lot was completely taken over by news media. I decided that I would document their presence with pictures and share them with my fellow CNNiReporters and readers.
