This iReport is part of an assignment:
You're an F-1, not a person.
"Hey, I was wondering if you guys hire international students with an F-1 Visa?"
"No, I'm sorry we typically do not sponsor."
And that's all it takes. Now i have to sit there for the rest of the session out of courtesy knowing that I don't have an opportunity.
Taking in an F-1 student means that the company is going to have to provide a business case proving the student has skills they can't get elsewhere, not only that but the application costs money and time.
I just graduated college, of course they can find my skills elsewhere. Am I supposed to be superman to even be considered for an H1-B?
What happened to equal employment opportunity to us? The people who immigrated here legally, who are spending 30 thousand dollars a year to pay for college without student loans?
"It's just too much of a hassle to hire you guys." that''s what.
An F-1 student can only be hired if a company has enough mercy to give them a chance and train them intensively for one year so they can start the application together after the 1 year of optional practical training (OPT) is up.
This kind of system has made discriminating against us one of the easiest things to do in this country. And why not? It's not like we have a voice anyways. Since we have no vote we don't have a say in the matter. We can't persuade, reform or influence anyone.
All we can do is sit in the dark and take it. All the while illegal immigrants are forcing their way in and changing the system from the inside out to their favor.
