CNN PRODUCER NOTE A power outage at Navitaire’s facility in Minneapolis is impacting numerous airlines and flights in North America. Navitaire is a reservation technology company that counts for more than 60 airlines as customers. While it is unclear how many airlines have been affected or how many flights have been canceled, the major ones in North America appear to be AirTran, Spirit, and Toronto-based Porter Airlines. Paul Rakov told me, 'We were "stranded" there until we could catch a 7:10am flight this morning, so we arrived home about 12 hours late. We now know why it happened (CNN reported a power outage in Minneapolis). I think more than a few people we upset that planes left that clearly most people weren't able to get on (the issue was that if you didn't already have a boarding pass, you couldn't get on...but if you did, you could). We assume our flight left half empty.'
Air Tran's spokesman told CNN, 'A power outage earlier today at our vendor’s data facility that manages our airport computer systems is causing us to process Customers manually at the airport for AirTran’s operations. The power at the facility has been restored, and we are told that the AirTran system should be fully restored in the next 90 minutes, or 9:30 pm CDT. We sincerely apologize to all of our Customers impacted by this outage. Of course, we’ll do our best to minimize delays and accommodate impacted Customers as quickly as possible.'
